          He studied law at the University of Oslo, graduating in 1919. He married Jordis Jörgensen on November 8, 1921, and they had three children.

          Lie became involved in politics at a young age, joining the Norwegian Labour Party's youth organization in 1911.

          He served in various government roles, including Minister of Justice (1935-1939), Minister of Trade and Industry (July-September 1939), and Minister of Supply and Shipping (1939-1940).
