King Charles News: British Monarch Diagnosed with Cancer
On February 5, Buckingham Palace announced King Charles III has an unspecified form of cancer and has begun “regular treatments.” The diagnosis was made following a procedure the 75-year-old underwent in late January for a “benign” enlarged prostate.
The Palace statement described the cancer as a “separate issue.”
Charles won’t perform his public-facing duties for the duration of his treatment, though he will continue to do paperwork and attend private meetings. He has served as the British monarch for nearly a year and a half and was crowned in May 2023.
“He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible,” the statement reads.
“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
